SO Derby Referees, Non-Skating Officials (NSOs), & Volunteers

WE WANT YOU.

SO Derby is run by an awesome Army of Volunteers. Our volunteers help at our games as Non-Skating Officials participating as either Scoreboard Keepers, Penalty Box Officials, Referees, and many other important positions.

If you want to be a part of an amazing group, but don't feel like skating, join SO Derby as a Referee/Volunteer/Non-Skating Official!

To volunteer, contact us by filling out this form:

Referees (Zebras)

Referees are skating officials responsible for assessing and enforcing penalties during games. They keep track of the location of the Pack and Engagement Zone, which Blockers are out of play, who the Jammers are, which Jammer (if any) is Lead Jammer, and how many points each Jammer has scored.

NSOs (Non-Skating Officials)

Non-skating Officials (NSOs) are the heroes of roller derby! They do all the jobs that allow the bout to take place such as scorekeeping, managing the penalty box, blowing the 5 second and start whistles, and more. There are usually between twelve and fifteen NSOs at any derby game and you will recognize them by their black STAFF tees.

Volunteers

Volunteers are also a crucial part of our events. From staffing the merch table, bake sale, and silent auction to announcing during the games and setting up/breaking down equipment, we couldn’t do it without them!
