We are SO Derby

SO Derby - Who We Are
SO Derby is the first skater-run, skater-owned, non-profit league in the Rogue Valley. Our skaters come in all shapes and sizes, and from all walks of life. Each member of the league has a voice and contributes in a unique and powerful way. SO Derby is a sanctuary for our members to train, mentor and lead. With the help of our family, fans and friends, SO Derby makes Southern Oregon even more awesome!

SO Derby History

In 2009, Southern Oregon Roller Girls was founded to fill the growing demand for derby in the region. The league started with a small group of skaters who met two nights a week in the heart of Medford at the local Armory. SORG is the only Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) league in Southern Oregon. In early 2016, SORG voted to re-brand as Southern Oregon Derby (SO Derby) to encourage diversity and inclusion for the league through expansion.

About WFTDA

The Women's Flat Track Derby Association was founded in 2004 as a governing body to oversee the fast-growing sport of roller derby, creating a uniform ruleset and membership requirements with the philosophy "By the skaters, for the skaters" in mind. Today, there are almost 400 member leagues, with new leagues springing up not only throughout the United States, but worldwide. For a full set of rules, visit WFTDA.com.

SO Derby in the Community

From our inception, SO Derby has been actively involved and present in the community. The league has supported and participated in many public events and fundraisers in Southern Oregon, including the Special Olympics Polar Plunge. For more on our community involvement check out our Community page.
